4 STAR READ!
Being rescued has new meaning in this 6th book in Lyz
Kelley's Elkridge Series. Thad returns to Elkridge having served for ten
years in the army with scars that are both visible and hidden. Thad
wants to remain invisible until he sees Karly again. He survived in
battle, but nothing compares to how he feels seeing her in the flesh.
Karly knows all about healing wounds and rescuing those no one wants. She runs an animal-adoption
shelter and training program for service animals. It was her dream to open the shelter and provide service animals to those in need. When she approaches Thad about training one of her charges she is faced with an even bigger challenge.
I love that the Elkridge Series is a mesh of connected community members who love their town and take care of each other. Each character has a story and the emotional attachments to one another make for a fun, lively read. I did enjoy the dirty secrets revealed in this book and the raw struggles faced by the main characters. Thad and Karly teach the reader about healing and that rescues comes in many ways.
