555555 SSSTTTAAARRRSSS!!!

Every damn time I pick up an Honor Bound Book by the awe inspiring Angel Payne I know I am in for a serious trip down emotional lane. Mastered was like sitting down to a elegant five course meal that taunted your senses, tricked your pallet, then left you in a carb coma with a huge grin on your face. Rebel, Rhett, and Brynna will spin circles in your mind as they all put their own lives on the line to save Zoe. What neither of them are prepared for is the raw honesty that can be revealed when soul mates finally find each other...after reading Mastered there is no such thing as "three's a crowd"!

I was granted an ARC for an honest review...
First, let me say that I know what a labor of love writing a book can be and I did enjoy Forbidden Love, but also struggled with some elements within the story. While I see the relevance for some drug reference or recreation I found it a distraction and uncomfortable to read. Probably because I was a substance abuse counselor for youth in the past and saw too many young lives and families torn apart by drugs and alcohol. With this perception set aside I will review the book more objectively...
Vanessa and Jace have an instant chemistry when they meet as new "step-siblings". That electricity ignites further as the two find enjoyment in smoking weed, watching stand-up comedy, and hanging out without supervision like most teenagers. Both have stories in their pasts that neither is willing to share, yet.
Jace loves a game. Vanessa love a challenge. The two embark in a game of seduction that can only lead to panty melting kisses, secretive touches, and taking it too far to turn back.
I liked the story and did find the end intriguing. The characters grew on me and I wanted to fight for them in the end...

Just when I’d made my mind up to go to his room, my door creaked open. Stepping in, he shut the door behind him, clicking the lock in place.

All of a sudden it became difficult to breathe. 

I couldn’t tear my eyes from him as he sauntered to my bed, my heart thumping harder and harder with every step he took. When he stopped at the edge, he wrapped his fingers around the post, tapping a rhythm against the wood, a song without a melody, but it still did something to me…something I didn’t want to admit out loud. 

"Why must you incessantly fuck with my head Lessa?" 

I gulped and scooted back into my headboard. "I—I don't know what you’re talking about." 

He swung around the pole, his body covering it. His tongue snaked out; licking his lip in such a sexy maneuver goosebumps slithered down my arms. His gaze scorched me, the heat from it pooling right between my legs. I shifted, squeezing my thighs together. 

He noticed, his lips turning up into a smirk. "The game could’ve gone on. But, instead, you hid in your room for a whole hour. And for what? To teach me a lesson?” He paused, tapping his index finger against his chin. “Or maybe you wanted to make me realize what I’ve done. Guess what, though? I know exactly what I’ve done. I know we are in uncharted territory.” He paused, a humorous gleam shining from his eyes. “You can throw all the lessons you want at me, Lessa. It won’t make a bit of difference. I won’t give in, not until I get what I want. And that is to be deep inside you.”

"I propose a game, Less," he said out of nowhere.

"A game? What kind of game?" He’d just been tasting me. Moaning…and now he’d proposed a game? How could he even think right now?

"A game that ends in sex." He licked his lips, biting down on his bottom lip so hard I looked for blood when he pulled away, not finding a single drop.

"Wait, what?" I couldn’t think. The clouds rolling through my lust-filled brain blocked his words.

"A game that ends in sex," he repeated.

What the fuck?

"What are the terms of said game?" I raised my brows, realizing he still held my hand.

"If I win and you give into me, I get to have you anytime I want." His eyes sparkled with amusement.

My mouth dropped open, even as I thought I might just lose on purpose. "And if I win?"

"If you win, I will leave you alone and stop messing with you for good, just like you want."

Is that what I truly want? I wondered.

"How long does this game last?" I asked. It couldn't go on forever.

"Six months, but I'm betting I can close in half that."
